We have the desire to be Wood Counties premiere source of free refurbished computers. In order to do this we need to reach local businesses, government and the university to let them know about this charity and its mission.

Letting your bosses, teachers and administrators know that they can donate their outgoing computer equipment and receive a tax deduction as opposed to paying a commercial recycling facility to handle it will help a lot.

As a non-profit organization we don't have an advertising budget or a marketing machine to promote this effort. Most of our donations come to us through word of mouth, church bulletins or by people sharing links to our website on the social networks, blogs or discussion forums.

We also have a Cause set up on Facebook that you can join and invite your friends to. There are a lot of ways to spread awareness and actions you can take to show your support from this page. We have a Facebook App that allows you to send virtual donations to your friends. You can become become a Fan of our Page on Facebook too and share it with your freinds!

If you want to keep up with what I am currently working on on the web you can follow me on Twitter. As I add content to the website, release new promotional materials or update my blog, I always post a progress tweet with links to the latest information.Twitter may not allow you to post the most information but the Tweets will give you an abbreviated way of keeping up with our progress!

I blog on several sites about subjects ranging from volunteerism, the environment to computer technology. Though I'm not a journalist or even a professional blogger, I think its a great way to pass on pertinent information. The Computers for Charity blog is on Blogger. Please link to my blog from your own and help increase traffic to this site and spread awareness about our mission!

Volunteer

Since this is a 100% charitable organization we are always in need of volunteers to help with our mission.

You don't have to be a computer guru to help the cause. You only have to be willing to learn the basics and help in the area you feel most comfortable in.

You can even learn how to build your own system from the ground up. We will train you and even offer certifications and awards based on your progress. It's like a free education in computer science!

We are currently have the need of help in the following areas: Driving, Refurbishing, Office Work, Marketing, Publicity, Coordination, Grant Writing, and Web Development.

Donate Computer Equipment

Most of our donations come from individuals who are looking for an environmentally friendly and humanitarian way to dispose of their old computers. Here are a few suggestions for donating equipment

Please make sure our check our Donation Guidelines first and contact us if you have any questions about what we can take!

When donating a computer, include the operating system software whenever possible.To ensure that the software transfer is legal, pass along the original disks, media, Certificate of Authenticity sticker (usually on the computer), user manual, and other documentation that came with the equipment.

If possible, include the keyboard, mouse, printer, modem, packaged software, or any other accessories you use with the computer.

You can be assured of your data privacy. We use a secure deletion format to 'shred' any personal data on the system . If you have any reservations about this process we can physically remove the hard drive for you or you can wipe the data prior to donating the computer.

Remember that tax season will always return -- and you are eligible for a deduction if you donate to a nonprofit refurbisher. We can provide a tax receipt upon request.
